S K I B U N N Y; B A N D First came the legend of Skibunny the club. Two Musicians, Mark and Tanya, with four Peel Sessions and a Melody Maker single of the week under their belts, came together as a DJ duo to create Skibunny, a weekly saturday night alternative club which soon prompted words like 'groundbreaking' from Radio 1. As the reputation grew, the accolades kept coming with both a “club of the week” appearance in the pages of the NME, and a gong for best alternative club at the Oh Yeah awards. Having DJ’d everywhere from South by Southwest to Tokyo, and inspired by getting back in the studio to create remixes from artists like Oppenheimer (as used by Nike), iForward Russia! and The Freelance Hellraiser, they decided to start playing music again as a band. Their first 7 inch “aah ooh” (Jan 2008) sat somewhere between Joy Division, Fourtet and The Cure - a bittersweet slice of electro-acoustic pop, the vocals being recorded with David Holmes. Playlouder said it was a “delicate insanely catchy pop single” and in Japan it hit the number one slot in the Jetset Records chart (Japan’s “rough trade”). Their first live show pitted their music against local filmmakers, who made short films for each track, and future shows include the Belfast Film Festival (with David Holmes and Andy Votel). A new single “Remote Control” will be released in May 2008. PRAISE FOR SKIBUNNY AND “AAH OOH” “4/5 -Skibunny’s ‘Aah Ooh’ hovers upon a cloud of euphoria.” GIGWISE
